I had Liberty Painting come out for a free estimate and agreed to move forward with the job based on the quoted price. The person I was speaking with assured me everything was set, so I canceled all of my other estimates because I thought I had found the right company.I also explained that I was pressed for time because I wanted to get my rental property ready as quickly as possible. After sharing that, I received a call saying the price had suddenly doubled to around $6,000. It left me feeling like my urgency was used against me and that I was being pressured into paying much more than what was originally discussed. The entire experience was extremely disappointing. Be cautious before canceling your other estimates, as the price I agreed to was not the price they ultimately wanted to charge.

Brick Painting FAQs

Painting your brick house can offer several benefits:

  • A fresh, updated look for modernizing your old exterior
  • Added protection against moisture, heat, and Houston weather
  • Improved curb appeal that can boost your overall property value

While traditional exteriors might need a repaint every 10 years, painting exterior brick surfaces, especially in Houston’s climate, can benefit from a fresh coat every 5-10 years. This not only keeps them looking pristine but also protects them from moisture and other environmental factors.

Check out these warning signs that it may be time to repaint.

Absolutely! Painting a brick fireplace can rejuvenate its appearance and make it a focal point in the room. Make sure you choose heat-resistant paint and follow the specific steps for fireplace brick paint to achieve a safe, long-lasting result.

  • Select Paint: Opt for high-quality brick paint tailored for the porous nature of bricks. Explore various brick paint colors or exterior brick paint color ideas for inspiration.
  • Prep: Clean the brick surface thoroughly, removing any dirt, mold, or mildew. A pressure washer can be effective for exteriors.
  • Repair: Address any cracks or chips in the brick to ensure a smooth painting surface.
  • Prime: For previously unpainted or porous bricks, apply a masonry primer to enhance paint adherence and color vibrancy.
  • Paint: Apply the chosen paint evenly using brushes or rollers. Multiple coats might be necessary depending on the color contrast.

If you’re painting a brick fireplace, make sure to use heat-resistant paint. But most importantly, reach out to the professionals at Liberty Painting and let us do the work.

While the DIY route might seem tempting, painting brick is a specialized task. It requires a deep understanding of brick surfaces, the right tools, and the expertise to ensure an even and lasting finish.

Given the challenges and the potential for costly mistakes, it’s always best to trust professionals like Liberty Painting.

Removing paint from brick can be difficult because brick is very porous and absorbs paint. Sandblasting can damage the surface if not done carefully. That’s why it’s important to be sure about your color choice before painting. If removal is needed, it’s best to consult professionals who understand how to handle bricks safely.

There are a few things you have to factor in to get an accurate cost estimate:

  • The size of your home
  • The condition of the brick
  • What type of paint you like
  • How much labor is involved

Before we get started, we always give our clients a detailed, itemized proposal, so they can see how much everything will cost, down to the materials. We don’t do hidden fees. What you see in your quote is what you get.

We work all over the Greater Houston area. Check out our Locations Serviced page for more information.

There are pros and cons to each.

With paint, you get a timeless look. Plus, since it doesn’t absorb like limewash, you know you’re going to see the exact color you choose. With that said, it does require quite a bit of maintenance compared to non-painted brick. You’ll have to powerwash it every now and then, especially if it’s white.

The big pro of limewashing a house is that it penetrates the brick, so unlike paint, it won’t peel off over time as quickly. That’s less maintenance for you. Plus, it creates a beautiful, worn, and vintage look that ages naturally.

The major downside (which is subjective) is that the natural brick color will show through a bit. If your house has cheap bricks, they’ll be noticeable.
